Extreme Weekly #25
Nemo Overheating, Pre-Historic Murder Kit, Smurf Army, UAE Skynet & Much More!
June 1st 2025
Yo yo, welcome back, everyone, and happy June 1st. lets start the new month of June of right with some real crazy stories and the latest in peculiar!
Lets just kick this right off so, Lets Do This!
01. Magnus Carlsen Just Took On 140,000 People at Once…
So, imagine logging onto the internet to play a game of chess and your opponent is literally Magnus Carlsen, the world’s best chess brain and you’ve got 140,000 randoms helping you make every move. What could possibly go wrong? 😅
Turns out… not much. This insane match just happened, and after 32 moves of pure digital chaos, the internet held on for a DRAW. The crowd used the threefold repetition rule to force the tie. Big win for the people. Carlsen said he was impressed, probably because he expected us to implode by move 5.
This was like Twitch Plays Pokémon but with bishops and brain cells.
02. A Whole Cargo Ship Just Showed Up in Someone’s Backyard in Norway
No, this isn’t a dream or a weird IKEA ad — a 160-foot cargo ship literally crashed into someone’s backyard in Norway. It slid off course, plowed through a field, narrowly missed a house, and came to a stop like it was just parking itself for a BBQ.
Local officials say strong currents and a navigation fail are to blame, but honestly... how do you misplace an entire SHIP?
The family who owns the yard? Totally chill about it. “It was a surprise,” they said. Understatement of the century.
This is why Norway stays undefeated in the “weirdly peaceful disasters” category.
03. Archaeologists Just Found Whale Bone Tools That Are 6,000 Years Old
Somewhere off the Alaskan coast, researchers just uncovered whale bone tools used by Indigenous people 6,000 years ago and these things are still functionally sharp. Like, sharpen-a-salmon sharp.
These ancient artifacts were found buried beneath melting permafrost, and include weapon tips, carving blades, and even a bone handle with sea lion teeth jammed into it (yes, that’s real). It’s giving: prehistoric DIY murder kit.
Even wilder? The tools were likely used to hunt other whales. This is ancient tech with Moby Dick energy
04. OpenAI Is Building a Supercomputer in the UAE Called… Stargate
Nope, not a movie sequel, OpenAI is actually building a massive AI supercomputer in the UAE, and it’s literally called Stargate because “Skynet” was probably too edgy.
Set to go live in 2026, Stargate will be one of the world’s most powerful computing hubs. A joint venture with Abu Dhabi’s G42. The goal? Supercharge the next wave of AI models with unreal processing power and astronomical scale.
Also wild: OpenAI just made ChatGPT free for everyone in the UAE. The whole region is being turned into an AI testbed, and honestly… this feels like the part of the sci-fi movie where we should start paying attention.

05. Penguin Poop Might Help Fight Climate Change. Science Is Unwell.
So apparently, penguin poop might be saving the planet.
Researchers in Antarctica discovered that giant piles of penguin guano are fertilizing the ice-free soil around colonies, which in turn helps trap carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. That’s right: penguin poop = natural carbon sink.
It’s stinky, it’s gross, and it’s borderline magical. The study suggests that expanding penguin habitats (and preserving their populations) could have real climate impact. These little tuxedo birds are out here pooping for the planet.
06. Scientists Just Found a Bizarre Dino Species With "Turtle-Rib Wings" in North America
Fossils recently unearthed in Utah reveal a never-before-seen dinosaur species that looks like evolution had a stroke mid-design. Named Mierasaurus brooksi, this creature had a body like a long-necked dino, but weird extended ribs that may have acted like proto-wings or flaps. Think: if a sauropod and a glider had a cursed baby.
Scientists say it lived about 150 million years ago and belonged to a rare group of dinos previously only found in Europe, meaning this discovery rewrites how we think dinosaurs migrated.
Also, the fossils were found in a site called the "Land of Sleeping Rainbows", which feels suspiciously like a Mario Kart track.
07. Clownfish Are Forgetting Their Friends Because of Climate Change
Now, apparently, thanks to ocean heatwaves, clownfish yeh, like Finding Nemo are starting to lose their ability to recognize each other. Scientists found that extreme temperature spikes damage the memory centers in their little fish brains, messing with how they bond and interact inside their anemone homes.
It’s not just sad, it’s wild. These fish rely on strong social connections to survive, and heatwaves are straight-up wrecking their mental game.
08. Non-Alcoholic Beer Is About to Become the #2 Beer in America
The beer-drinking world is sober and curious because non-alcoholic beer is on track to become the second biggest beer category in the U.S. by 2027, beating out light beer, IPAs, and everything else but classic full-strength brew.
Why? Gen Z vibes, wellness trends, and people realizing you can vibe at a party without blacking out. Big brands like Heineken and Budweiser are doubling down, and even craft breweries are getting in the (non)spirit.
It’s not just a phase — the NA beer scene is booming. The future of drinking might be… not drinking?
09. 3,076 People in France Dressed as Smurfs to Break a World Record, and Honestly? Respect.
Because humans are amazing and unhinged in the best ways, 3,076 people in France just dressed up as Smurfs, full blue paint, white hats, and all to break a Guinness World Record. The town of Landerneau was flooded with blue bodies in a surreal sea of cartoon nostalgia.
Why? Because the previous record (set by Germans in 2019) was 2,762 Smurfs and that, apparently, was unacceptable. lol.
Guinness was there to make it official, and yeh they SMASHED it. No word yet on whether Gargamel tried to stop them
