Extreme Weekly #3
December 18th 2024
Hellooo guys!
Just want to say thank you to all that are reading and enjoying and a happy middle of the week, we’ve made it. Keep going and smash the rest! You got this.
I know it’s getting cold and gritty. Well, definitely is where I am. Today has some odd topics, some crazy, some cool.
Lets go…..
01. Syrian 'Prisoner' Deception
In a mad, mad revelation, a man discovered by a CNN crew in a Syrian prison initially believed to be a tortured civilian, has been identified as a former Assad regime officer feigning opposition to the regime.
This incident underscores the complex and deceptive narratives emerging from conflict zones, highlighting the challenges journalists face in verifying information in such environments. Like how can this even happen?
02. Oregon Skies Leave Pilots Stunned
Commercial airline pilots have reported seeing unexplained, colorful lights streaking across the skies over Oregon, exhibiting movements that defy normal flight patterns. Described as moving at extreme speeds, the lights performed rapid ascents and corkscrew maneuvers.
Now the Federal Aviation Administration acknowledged the unusual reports, they have offered no explanations, fueling speculation ranging from military exercises to unidentified aerial phenomena. The incident echoes similar sightings reported globally, intensifying curiosity about what might be lurking in our skies.
03. Scotland Braces for Record-Breaking Extreme Weather
Meteorologists are warning that Scotland could face unprecedented weather conditions in 2025. Experts predict record-breaking temperatures, heavier rainfall, and increased snowfall as the effects of climate change intensify.
Sean Batty, a leading Scottish meteorologist, highlighted that 15 of the top 20 warmest years recorded in Scotland since 1884 have occurred since 2003. Scotland is bracing for a year of extremes with temperatures potentially surpassing the all-time high of 35°C, alongside heavier winter snowfalls and flooding risks.
This shift underscores the growing urgency of addressing climate change as once-rare weather events become the new typical, putting communities and infrastructure to the test. Is the weather just going to keep getting worse year by year?
04. TikTok's Carbon Footprint Rivals Entire Nations
TikTok’s annual carbon footprint has been estimated at 50 million metric tonnes of CO₂, putting it on par with the entire country of Greece. The energy-intensive nature of TikTok’s video streaming and data processing drives its massive environmental impact, with the average user responsible for about 48 kg of CO₂ per year, equivalent to driving a car 123 miles.
TikTok has pledged to achieve carbon neutrality by 2030, focusing on renewable energy for data centers and emission reduction initiatives. This revelation highlights the growing environmental cost of digital platforms as usage continues to soar worldwide. To me, this is insane. A business is competing with ACTUAL companies in terms of carbon output.
05. Increase In Cosmetic Procedures For Men
Now this is driven by several key factors:
Evolving Societal Norms: There's a growing acceptance of cosmetic enhancements among men, reducing stigma and encouraging more to pursue aesthetic treatments.
Influence of Social Media: Platforms like TikTok and Instagram showcase aesthetic trends and procedures, inspiring men to consider similar enhancements.
Desire for Youthful Appearance: In competitive professional and social environments, maintaining a youthful look is increasingly valued, prompting men to seek cosmetic solutions.
Advancements in Minimally Invasive Procedures: The availability of less invasive treatments with shorter recovery times appeals to men seeking subtle yet effective results.
Popular procedures among men include rhinoplasty, chest reduction, eyelid surgery, and liposuction, reflecting a broader trend toward personalized aesthetic enhancements.
06. Flat Earther's Antarctic Expedition Ends with a Round Surprise
Shockingly, a Flat Earth youtuber who goes by The Final Experiement, who embarked on an expedition to Antarctica to prove his theory ended up confirming the opposite: the Earth is round. Determined to expose the "global conspiracy," the individual set out to find the "edge of the world," only to be confronted with undeniable evidence of the planet's curvature.
The failed mission has sparked a mix of amusement and debate online, with critics pointing to the journey as proof that science remains undefeated. Despite his findings, the adventurer maintains that his quest was worthwhile, albeit with a result he wasn’t expecting.
07. The Super Tunnel
Elon Musk has recently commented on the concept of a Transatlantic Tunnel. A proposed vacuum tube system that could transport passengers between London and New York in approximately 54 minutes. While initial estimates suggest such a project could cost up to $20 trillion, Musk asserts that his company, The Boring Company, could achieve it for significantly less.
The proposed tunnel would utilize a vacuum environment to facilitate travel speeds exceeding 3,000 mph, drastically reducing the current seven to eight-hour flight time between the two cities. Despite the ambitious nature of this idea, substantial financial, engineering, and logistical challenges remain, making the project's realization uncertain.
Musk's involvement in such discussions aligns with his history of pursuing innovative transportation solutions, including the Hyperloop concept and SpaceX's Starship for rapid Earth-to-Earth travel.
Now I want to add another mini segment with five little bits of info for you guys, let me know if you like it.
Banana Art: An art installation featuring a banana duct-taped to a wall sold for $120,000, only to be eaten by a performance artist shortly after.
Longest Hiccuping Streak: Charles Osborne hiccuped continuously for 68 years (1922–1990), a record that remains unbroken.
Octopus Hearts: An octopus has three hearts; two pump blood to the gills, while the third pumps it to the rest of the body.
Eternal Flame Falls: In New York's Chestnut Ridge Park, a small waterfall shelters a natural gas leak that can be lit to produce a flickering flame beneath the water.
Longest Time Breath Held Voluntarily: The world record for holding one's breath underwater is 24 minutes and 3 seconds, achieved by Aleix Segura Vendrell in 2016.
